The Feminine Ideal

What better way to extol femininity and to encourage girls around the world about who they are, what they are worth, and what they look like than the Miss Universe pageant. I tell you, if I could sit and think for days I could not come up with such a way to glorify all things womanly.

I mean, how else could you tell which woman to give a scholarship to than the way they do it on this show?

I mean, think about all that we can learn about a person by what she looks like in a two-piece swimming suit? We can learn about her diet and exercise routine– that definitely is something the world needs to watch and emulate (regardless of whether or not it gives some teenage girls eating disorders). We need to show that the womanly ideal isn’t achievable unless you spend countless hours tanning, applying makeup, working out, and not eating.

And think about how much good their doing– signing autographs here, visiting children in classes so that they can see all of the contestants and think about which one they think is the cutest– I mean, they can give encouragement to these students to stay in school and choose a good major in college.

Think of the education we and all the men around the world are getting on geography as they watch these women go by wearing “Thialand” and “Trinadad and Tabago”. As they stand in front of us talking about our causes, we’re thinking about just how much impact this one girl can do, we can be encouraged that we too can make an impact (even if it’s only if we look like she does and can get on stage).

So, yes, this is a great way to show off the feminine ideal. Being a great woman has nothing to do with caring for a family, raising children, loving God, and being a good wife to a husband, and all to do with how you look. That is, after all, the only thing that a man wants?

Uhm, it isnt these pagents that “give” girls eating disorders! LOL, its spiritual in nature, and Im sure the Devil just loves to encourage girls to watch these things so he can whisper in their ears all manner of nonsense like “you’re too fat” “you don’t look good enough to..” blah blah blah… But the TV or media or anything at all doesn’t MAKE these girls this way. The devil influences them, and they either don’t know Christ, or don’t understand about the battle for their minds and how to win in Christ.

  2. No, but emulating those girls that they see on TV and thereby idolizing them influences girls to be something that they were not made to be. They have an impact, because they teach (indirectly at times) that what is important as how you look. You should be fit and eat well, but you shouldn’t starve yourself to be like an idol.

Whereas the Bible emphasizes a woman’s inner person, beauty pagents tend to emphasize the outer.

  3. Now this is something that Swedes despise, due to the feminism here. Can you imagine? Something positive about Sweden, at last 🙂
Beauty contests are regarded degrading for women. And I agree wholeheartedly.
